Snow 171108
Last tuesday we headed up to north to Rovaniemi. There was no snow anywhere in a hole way up and the hill was closed again. Finally temperature changed, on thursday morning we had 10 cm snow cover and locals were able to shoot some extra snow to prepare the hill. Rovaniemi was so crowded with jumpers we got only one training in a day. After almost two months break caused by latest knee operation that meant just 10 jumps preparation for the normall hill national championships. The same event was only qualification for world cup opening since Ruka couldn't organize another comp on next wednesday due lack of enough snow. I was 6th.

Summer national Champs '08, double silver 230908
Last weekend was held our national championships in Kuopio. I came back to home with two silver medals. On saturday we competed for 2009 team champs. After keen and thrilling competition we found ourself(Vile Larinto, V-M Lindström, I and Kalle Keituri) standing on a podiums second highest stand, only ONE point! after PHS team, OH third. On sundays large hill summer championships I also ended up to the second place. Pretty nice jumping on both days.

I climbed back to the hill. I have jumped just a few trainings here in Lahti and a camp in Kuopio. The pool is empty now and Betoni(large hill in Lahti) open, which means we can really start training.

Two months from operation 080708
Past months has been pretty boring, again. Some gym, running in a water and so on. I haven't yet jumped a single jump but time for that is coming closer. In Janne's farewell competition I have other tasks and looks like I will pass first finlandia tour comps as well.

Yesterday I was in a second arthroscopic operation. ACL looked good, as did repaired meniscus. They took of the other upper metal fastener and cleaned redundant cartilage.

Beginning of the new season 300408
Even I've already started preparing for the next winter some time ago, I have to take break again. We are going to look inside my knee and do some repairs to solve problems. Things are not going so smoothly all the time!

End of season 240408
Season 2008 has ended, so it's time to look shortly back. The hole season was fighthing against knee problem. I was along in Liberec and Nordic Tournament world cup without any success. After all I got my jump power up to 80-85% of my normal level. I couldn't do full speed trainings, but main problem came along of incomplete mobility especially in inrun position. Afterwards it's easy to say it would been best option to pass the hole season and just do rehab. Ok, I got bronze medall in our own champs in normal hill. After a year from surgery I'm still feeling pain and swell under/after stress. Anyway still looking forward..

I got my change to get back in business in Liberc wc past weekend. It took long time to get back and very short time to drop again. Things started to go wrong just week before and kept going on same way in weekends world cup.

National Champs, bronze 010208
We had our normal hill championships 26.1 in Jyväskylä. I got bronze after M. Hautamäki and H. Olli. I was still struggling with my landings. So I have to push myself for better telemarks and trust my knee will keep on.

New site design and first contest 150108
New web page desing is more or less ready to publish. We had Finlandia Tour in Lahti and I was also competing there. I ended to fifth place, well.. I wasn't so familiar with telemark landing, just made my first telemarks earlier in training. The knee was holding better than I expected, despite all it's not good enough yet. The winter has been really pain in the ass once again and we couldn't been doing jumping trainings when wanted. Despite I don't see and feel my progress so well than the others, things have been going better... Is that enough, I really hope show. Actually I already took part Kuopio's Finlandia Tour but wheather was so bad that it would been better to cancel hole event. After all they organized one round comp.

Betoni ready for jumping 241107
By saturday noon hill employees finnished their work and Betoni(large hill in Lahti) was open for jumpers. We also got few centimeters snow cover during night and weather was really nice, sun was shining, few minus degrees and so on. I was visiting on hill on wednesday evening when Lartsi and Kede where shooting snow in to the inrun. There is few photos in gallery from wednesday. On saturday I was also in hill for accustom myself for snow. After all for everybodys suprise I climbed straight up to the hill and jumped four times. So now the scariest moment, first jump after 8 months break, is far behind.

The hill in Rovaniemi has been ready for jumping few days. While the others has found their way to north, I'm still in home. I've been able to do few more things lately, still the left legs power and ability to jump is not close enough the other leg. I have to patient and just do my job here. Is it going to take two weeks, month or more, I don't know.

Things are going forward, but not so fast I want. Did I mention it again? Fall is soon turning to winter and I haven't seen green light for jumping. Or actually the knee is not holding so well yet. Things are going forward, but in any case I still need quit a long time to really be in fit. What else... I also stared at laser a while a go.

Things are going forward, but not so fast I want. Now it's clear I'm not able to jump in plastic and we have moved schedule to a first snow camp. Once again only time will tell when the knee is ready for action.

Re-examination 280607
It's been almost 12 weeks since operation and knee supposed to be ok. Eero has done great job once again. Rehab has been going pretty much like planned. Minor pain sometimes in work out or maybe i'm just used to feel a modicum pain. Those meniscus torns delayed a bit starting rehab process compared to normal acl operation. Long 12 weeks behind ,another 12 weeks and further will be ahead... After all I'm able to move and do a bit more day after day.

The icing on the cake... 280307
Quit a lot has been happened since last update. Frustrated trip to Sapporo, more wc contests and finally finals in Planica flying hill. On fridays comp I felt my short 190m jump in a landing and my season was over sooner than supposed. Reason for fall was pain in a knee and more damage came after that. I met doctor Hyvärinen in Finland and the injury was clear: completely torn ACL, minor torn in PCL, both meniscus are torn and some damage in MCL. LCL is intact. Operation is waiting me around the corner and hole recovering process will take circa six moths. So season ending was the icing on the cake when looking back to hole winter!

Our nationals was last change to get ticket to Sapporo World Championships. Despite I wasn't happy for my jumps, I was 5th in comp and I got ticket to Japan. On last week I've improved my jumping and if/when everything starts well, I think I'm not statistic anymore. Looking forward...

Jan 24th we got a large hill prepared in Lahti and I jumped first free training in the large hill after two months break... Before and after there has been few events in world cup, results has been bad. Now I have only few days time to find old form and I have to beat the other jumpers in our national championships to get ticket to Sapporo.

After Ruka I only got chance to jump in another world cup event in Lillehammer. Before sunday I jumped just few jumps in a two day as a trialjumper. Also this weekend was a big disappointment for me, anyhow few points.

World Cup Ruka 24.-25.11 261106
The hole world cup opening was a pancake in Ruka. Weather was not optimal and jury did too many wrong decisions, so both events got embarrassed end. Arttu Lappi won and my position was 21th on saturdays one round contest where no one from last years top 15 jumpers was ahead of me and only two of them was in top 30 because of all the time hardened snowfall. Sundays contest was cancelled after few jumpers and few breaks.

After good summer season and short brake before snow trainings, transfer supposed to be pretty easy, but suprise, things hasn't gone so well. We had few competitions where I wasn't jumping on a decent level. So now is time to rest few days home and start all over again in Nordic Opening.

Summer Grand Prix, part three 041006
Grand Prix finals in Oberhof was held in foggy weather. I pretty much missed my chanches jumping few meters short in first round and 16th place in tight competition ended this summer. I also had some scary moments in trialround. Just few seconds before I supposed to go to spar, I heard some shouts, looked up and I saw one ski flying towards me. Somebody lost his ski about ten meters up from the stage and that ski stopped to my bindings! That was close...

Summer championships, Kuopio 190906
Last weekend we had our national summer championships in Kuopio. On Saturdays team event Lahden Hiihtoseura took gold with team Kiuru, Yliriesto, Lindström and Ahonen. PHS1 and PHS2 were second and third. On sunday was individual Large hill and my position was third. After all I was happy jumping on a good level all three rounds including trialround.

Summer Grand Prix, part one 080806
August 2006, Hinterzarten. First weekend of SGP results: second place for us in team comp and 15th place for me in individual comp. Personally I jumped ok in team event and not so well in individual event where especially in first jump my take off was of the balance. Now It's time do more work for coming winter season and next SGP jumps in my case will probably be in Klingenthal and Oberhof.

Work for coming season has started, actually two months ago. Trainings has gone pretty much as planned. Past two years has been really hard and stressfull time. I just came back home after spending almost 3 weeks mostly skiing. First week we stayed in Levi and after that we headed to north of Norway. Lyngen alps are beautiful coastal mountain area where is no lift or helicopter access to the mountains. Great time and great skiing with old and new friends... really fun!

Finnish national championships in Rovaniemi and Ruka on 25th-26th of march. In Rovaniemi HS100 I was 7th and in Ruka HS142 5th. Interesting competitions on both days, wind blowing up to 10 meters/second.

Season is now over and I got few ok results and few not so good ones from the rest of the events, I ended up to 20th place in overall standings 2005/2006 World Cup... check results page or fis biography for more information. There was few GREAT moments which I can remember afterwards. We still have national championships in Rovaniemi and Ruka 25.-26.3 and after that it's time to relax and enjoy about Spring time!

XX Olympic Winter Games, Torino 2006 240206
After all I came back from Olympics with one medal, great! Last but not least we had team event and after all we ended up to silver with team Kiuru, Happonen, Ahonen and Hautamäki. Gold for Austria and bronze for Norway. Individual events didn't go as I was planned, 31th in normal hill and 18th in large hill.
